It is a historic day. The first Presidential Election in our fine blog's history. It has been a little ugly at times. A lot of liberals think Obama is the seond coming. A lot of conservatives think he's a terrorist or at least the anti-Christ. These folks probably aren't real keen on a less than fundamental McCain either. I like both of these men. I think either will do a fine job running the country. I made a decision on one of them. But, I think that is a private choice. When did it become ok to ask people who they voted for? And why do people think they have the right to judge you based on your vote? I do not understand that.
Everyone says you need to vote. But do you? Or a better question is should you? I read an article that 3 out of 5 voters are not educated on the issues (I thought it would be higher) And these 3 out of 5 usually decide the election. They vote on reasons like, "Obama looks smug" or "McCain looks too old." So, if you don't know jack, should you vote?

you're delving into constitutional law, amended law, inalienable rights etc... if only the founding fathers, or one of the three branches would advocate what we know ought to be the way... federal pushes off on state and vice versa... after you've run in circles for several years you embrace depression (emotional not fiscal)...
a ut poll found that 23% thought obama was a muslim... this is why i didnt vote in texas... it wouldnt matter... maybe the problem is the electoral college.
i could go on for days...
People who are not educated about the canidates SHOULD NOT VOTE. The 23% people who think Obama is a Muslim, are the people who either believe chain emails OR believe anything people who read chain emails tell them. Those people should not be voting.
It is pretty easy every 4 years to spend some time studying canidates, watching debates, and making your own thoughtful decision. If a person cannot commit to doing that, then NO they should not vote.
So chain mail isn't real?
What about the waiter and his tips...that happened right.
Anyone can vote, that's the beauty of it. The ugly side is how the public gets the education that they do. I go to cnn.com, you go to foxnews.com, we are reading very different perspectives of I'd bet the average citizen is likely to believe is the same news.
Did McCain really believe taking "Joe the Plumber" stumping with him was going to be beneficial?
At least it won't take long to tally the votes.....
Everyone should vote. Even the `uneducated', `misinformed' or people who consider Obama a terrorist. That's our country. Those we deem fools are Americans and pieces of the collective. If they don't vote, we are under reprensenting the reality of the mass. Though we consider them unintelligent and `wrong' in their interpretations, they are their interpretations. Difference in opinion is encouraged in Democracy.
I had a long, long post for this morning and am glad Faust put something up to deter me from my rant (which would have bored you). I walked to my polling place this morning and, with the song `AMERICA!' in my head from the movie Team America (South Park guys) I walked the streets and tried to `identify' what it means to be American. The first thing I saw were cars, which made me think of gas, which made me think of excessive consumption. But that doesn't identify me as American. I thought about it all morning.
When I walked into work, I realized what `my America' is, which I assume is vastly different than any of yours. Mine, which I define through my ideals, consisted of me entering a Catholic organization, saying hi to a kid with a f'ed up family life, speaking Spanish to a receptionist and going to work for something I consider beneficial and purposeful. I guess what that all means, is that I have the liberty to make choices and surround myself with what I consider meaningful. My `America' allows me to do so.
What is your America?
One more thing:
`CHANGE'
is the slogan behind the Obama machine. If he is elected, how much `CHANGE' are we expecting?
Two things:
I feel that Obama (if elected) enters at a time when `change' has already begun, particularly due to unearthed negligence in housing/banks/loans/credit. We live outside of our means and have been exposed for it. `Change' in the financial arena beckons, Obama or not.
Second, what if this vessel for `Change' doesn't provide as advertised. What if universal health care is elusive and mythical? (I think it is) What if gas continues to rise, Iraq persists and taxes rocket? What, what, we will do then?
Finally, (and I'm done for the day) I expect a governing body to impose proper discipline on the people (I'm a conformist). I hope for discipline that governs and protects us, while restraining us, from making foolish, tactless decisions. I do hope that Obama* appoints the correct personnel to put a kabash on the permittance of sloppy irresponsibility (particularly financially). If not, I don't know how much `Change' we can expect.
PS - I'm going to the `inaguration' rally in Chicago tonight. I'll take pics/notes.
Somebody repsond. I don't plan on working today.
Williams, you're right about your rants... Im had to pour myself another cup of coffee just to stay with you.... zzzzzz
Ok, I went to vote today at 11 AM. I left a little before lunch fearing the long lines that all the “early voters” warned me about. Well, joke turns out to be on them, there was NO line and I was in and out in less than 5 minutes.
As I parked my car, before I could even turn my engine off I was bombarded by 4-5 candidates, handing me crap, talking all at once, shaking my hand, etc. I thought, wow what a final last minute desperation attempt for a vote.
Initially I planned to walk into my booth and vote straight down the line for my Presidential candidate's party. But as I pondered in my booth I thought about the IC post and all the desperate candidates outsides... I don’t know one from the other, so why should I vote for them? Because they showed up to shake my hand on election day?! I should go out of my way to NOT vote for these people! I am not much of a party voter anyway; I like to choose the best Presidential candidate who I think will best lead this country in the next four years. And to be honest with myself, the Presidential candidates are the only ones I really know much about. So has I stared at my ballot, I decided that the only fair thing to do was to vote for President of the United States of America, and leave the rest blank.
I felt American today.
Nice one. I voted for President and two Senatorial elections and a state rep. in Illinois. I then left the rest of the page blank.
all of our lives are impacted one way or another. people need to know what they're voting for.

I'm part of the if you don't know what the fuck your candidate stands for (so you're lazy as shit) and you don't realize how big of a deal it is to have the opportunity to vote then you shouldn't vote.
About an hour ago I sent an email to my client asking if he wanted to renew his ad in the December issue of REDNews, this was his response:
Kevin,
Due to Clinton repealing the Glass-Stegal act during his administration, the key event that led us into this financial crisis, and coupling that with Clinton's Securities Modernization Act of 1999 that allows for gambling on bonds and publicly held corporations through the use of Credit Default Swaps (this is what brought down AIG and caused the Treasury to bail it out to the tune of $137.5 Billion and climbing), the credit markets are now frozen. Note that these CDS gambling activites were illegal since the they caused the stock market crash of 1907 But Clinton is not a student of history apparently and NOW since the credit markets are fearing an obama presidency there is absolutely NO MONEY for raw land acquisition or development.
So with Clinton fucking us over and now that it appears were are headed towards a 4 year ass-slamming from hussien obama, NO ONE is going to be buying raw land of this size and thus advertising is simply futile.
This is not a reflection on you or your fine product and we are appreciateive of what you have to offer but we are scaling back dramatically as we know we are on the precipice of a cliff and the fall is going to be disastrous.
Thanks barack for pushing us over!
Peter
Wow.
You think he voted blue?
