Do the Mavs have a chance?
About 95% of teams up 2-0 go on to win series. Only 14 teams have overcome that deficit.
Can the Mavs?
Maybe. Should have taken 1 game in OKCrappy. Missed a couple of killshots/nail-in-coffin opportunities in final minutes and squandered leads. Kidd missed open 3ptr up 7 with 2mins left in gm1; Dirk missed open 3ptr to go up 4 with 1min left in game 2.
Should the Mavs lose, I don't think OKChitty is a legit contender. Why? OKrap finished last in the league in assists/game. Last. Charlotte had more assists/game and they only scored 31 points all season.
Spurs can beat them. Lakers too. Maybe even Memphis.
West still seems wide open. Will be fun to watch. Spurs look great. Bynum is animalian.
East sucks, and my most wishful thinking Round 2 prediction is that Indiana beats Miami.

after the bullshit i saw at the end of game one--no.

You sorely miss Barrea and Chandler. Nowitzi earned hIs ring but those guys were Key in the LA Sweeepstakes (I actually enjoyed watching LA lose) and the inevitable Ring ceremony.
Mavs lack what the Spurs don't this year. Depth, Front Office/Brilliant Coaching Staff and a humble owner. In the Spurs 4 Championships, I never once saw Peter Holt hoist the trophy. Food for thought.

P.S.-I sat next to a 30 something tatted up Spurs fan coughing mucus out of a trachea for game 2. I love this game.
The Spurs lost to Memphis last year. So, go easy on the advice column, B Dub.
He's right. We gave up the Defensive POY and got Grandpa Vince and Necktat West (who I actually like). Barea balled his a$$ off last yr and got rewarded with a great contract in sunny Minnesnowta. We miss him.
It's not the same team. Not even close, despite how much we want it to be. Tough to watch last night, though Im looking forward to the Lakers and/or Spurs beating the piss out of OKC. No player I detest more than Russell Westbroke and his old west shoot the guns bullshit.
After being one of sports' worst franchises for decades, Mavs got a ring last year. Dirk's career, spot in HOF, legacy cemented. If he has one more run in him at a title, this isnt the team he'll do it with.
Well said Adam. I like Delonte too. Heard him on Rome the other day and he is a solid individual. Also he has some hilarious videos on YouTube if you are ever so inclined.
Faust, don't forget the fact that Ginobili played with a broken arm last year, albeit against Memphis sans Rudy Gay. I will be sure to forward my opinions to the editorial staff before publishing my comments.

Cuban is a shitty owner. Who blows up a championship team? Mark Cuban does. Not trying to be a dick, that's just my opinion. Let Tyson Chandler go??? Really?! And think about what the Mavs could've been if they had kept Nash around back in 03. Thanks Mark.
Spurs are a much different team than last year. This is the best Spurs team I've ever witnessed, I called Weiss and told him that a month and a half ago.
The Cuban as a shitty owner comment is inaccurate.
* In the 20 years before Cuban bought the team, the Mavs had a winning percentage of 40%, and playoff record of 21–32. In the ten years following, the team won 69% of their regular season games and reached the playoffs in each of those seasons. *
The Mavs were a doormat for decades. They now make the playoffs every year, won the title last year and should have done so in 2006. The city loves them after ignoring them during most of the 80s and all of 90s.
Saying he is a shitty owner has no factual backing. Dumb decisions, sure. But he made a winner out of a losing franchise. And the random German kid they traded for in 1998 is going to the HOF with a ring...with much thanks to Cuban.
This year did rekindle a familiar feeling of frustration with Mavs ownership. Not signing Chandler, when he wanted to stay, was an unforgiveable error. Makes me sad every time I see him in a Knicks jersey.
Problem with Cuban is that he always looks for the next big thing. We'd just won a title. We were going to lose some pieces, but the core could have remained intact. A Dirk/Jet/Kidd/Chandler core has something. Swap Chandler for Haywood and we are a 36-30 7-seed.
Cuban wants Dwight Howard (which seems unlikely) and Deron Williams, which also might not happen. Kidd is 141yrs old and a free agent. Terry is a free agent. The Mavs will have a lot of $$ to work with, but the sad truth is that, when the team takes the court next winter, there will likely not be any semblance to the 2011 championship team.
And that Kevin, is shitty.
Spurs look good. Best team you've ever witnessed, meaning better than the 2003 AND 1999 championship teams seems exaggerated. That 2003 team was remarkably noteworthy.
Maybe they are the best Spurs team you've ever seen, but you are the most loyal of loyal sports fans. Not a bad thing, but if I recall correctly, you've also said that...
* George Hill was going to be an All-Star
* Gary Patterson created Easter
* Matt Bonner invented Pepsi.
* Sean Elliot actually regenerated his own kidney and now has 3
* Casey Pachall speaks fluent Arabic
Weiss said that George Hill would be an all-star..., and he might be one day Bc he's doing pretty well on Indiana right now. The others I never said, however it wouldn't surprise me if Bonner created Pepsi.
You're right about Cuban, he has been great for the Mavs. But I still wouldn't want a computer nerd making basketball decisions about my team, that should be left to the GM. Cuban made the Mavs cool in Dallas, and def spent big bucks in doing so, but his talent decision making as an owner has cost them deeper runs and maybe a few more banners.
This team is close to '03 team, but not even that team was as deep as this Spurs team is. Our 2nd unit could be a starting 5 on a lot of teams!
